About us

Why we exist

IMIX believes that people who migrate and seek safety in the UK should be welcomed and valued within our communities.

Everything we do seeks to challenge and humanise the often-hostile narrative on migration and displacement.

There is a human story behind every negative headline and that story deserves to be heard.

How we work

Our approach to narrative change goes far beyond messaging. Real change happens when the right messengers share the right stories with the right audiences — in ways that genuinely connect. Narrative change isn’t a single tactic; it’s made up of many different parts working together, each playing a vital role.

Here’s how we work with each part of this ecosystem:

  • People with lived experience:
We offer training, mentoring and safe spaces for storytellers to build confidence, protect their wellbeing and share their stories on their own terms. Their voices bring truth, depth and humanity to the conversation.
  • Frontline staff:
We support staff who work closely with migrants to communicate the realities they witness every day. Their insight adds credibility and helps audiences understand the human impact of policies and systems.
  • Allies and unexpected messengers:
We work with people outside the migration sector — community leaders, professionals, faith voices and others — who can reach audiences the sector can’t connect with alone. Their perspectives help widen understanding and build trust across divides.
  • Communicators and campaigners:
We help organisations strengthen their storytelling, frame content effectively and communicate with confidence. This ensures that everyday communication contributes to long-term narrative goals.
  • Media and journalists:
We build supportive, long-term relationships with journalists and editors to encourage accurate, humanising reporting on migration. This includes offering context during fast-moving moments, connecting reporters with lived-experience voices, challenging harmful language and helping place stories that broaden public understanding.
  • Research and framing insight:
We use audience research, message testing and framing principles to understand what helps people listen — and what creates resistance. This evidence guides how stories are shaped and shared.
  • Practical tools and resources:
We create easy-to-use guides, templates, frameworks and safety advice so that narrative work becomes part of everyday practice, not an overwhelming task.

Together, these parts form a connected approach — one that recognises that no single action shifts the narrative alone. It’s the combination of human stories, evidence, skills, relationships and practical tools that makes narrative change effective, sustainable and rooted in shared humanity.
