We’re looking for young people to join our board!

Posted by IMIX on October 31, 2019

Immigration is one of the key debates within UK politics and the media, and IMIX is working to ensure that the debate includes voices from migrants and those who support them.

IMIX was created to support the refugee and migration sector shift public attitudes on migration to create an open and welcoming Britain for people who make the UK their home. We do this by using innovative communications techniques and supporting campaigns for change within our partner organisations. We want our board to be as diverse as the organisations we represent. We’re on the lookout for young people over the age of 18 who have been affected by the UK immigration system and want to help us achieve change.

We’re also looking for the following personal attributes:

What difference will you make?

From Windrush to shining a light on EU citizens rights to shaping media narratives on the Channel crossings, IMIX is at the heart of some of the biggest migration debates. Our existing board has experience in communication, governance, fundraising and lived experience of migration and want to ensure that young people have a voice in our decision making.

We know it can be daunting to join a board, particularly if you haven’t done it before, so we want to make it as easy as possible for you to join us and participate fully in our discussions. Both the Chair and Chief Executive are committed to working alongside young people to enable this.

Our trustees are asked to commit to a three-year term, with an option to renew. As a trustee we also hope that you will promote the work of IMIX, and collectively ensure that the board exercises its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation. We are looking for trustees who want to use their experience to take a hands-on role in the work of the charity.

We have quarterly board meetings which take place in London, but there is be the option of attending remotely. Reasonable travel expenses will be covered.

To apply please send a CV and a covering letter to the Chief Executive, Emma Harrison emma.harrison@imix.org.uk. Please do also feel free to contact her for an informal chat. Ideally you would be able to join the next Board meeting on Thursday, 5 December.
